If you are anything like our family your house can go from beautiful and organized to a hot mess in a matter of seconds during the holidays. It really is an amazing thing to watch. Spending hours cleaning and putting away everything only to drag out a few Christmas decorations and bam the house looks like a bomb went off. I have learned over the past year that our sweet baby girl suffers from allergies. For a while I thought it was just seasonal but I have come to realize the things in our home are making it worse. I filled an old egg basket with old ornaments thinking it would be a fun way to decorate this year. Not only were these shiny ornaments a beacon to Josslyn to “come take me”, but they are also awesome for showing how much dust is in our air. Now if you recall we just changed our air filter a couple of months ago installing a Filtrete Healthy Living Ultra Allergen Reduciton Filter (MPR 1500). I checked the air filter and of course it looked dirty but not horrible. I was stumped to what might be causing so much extra dust in our home. And then it hit me, this beautiful flocked white tree was causing even more dust in our home. I seriously was not sure this was possible; between Fenway, Josslyn, and constant drywall patching how could it get worse? HA! I adore our tree, it is in fact over 30 years old, once belonging to my grandparents. 30 years of beautiful flocking trapping dust just waiting to be released every time Josslyn or the dog ran by!It comes apart in 9 total pieces and is far too large to store in a box, so we hang it in the attic. And never once in 30 years has this tree been cleaned. I mean how do you clean a flocked tree or any tree for that matter? I considered taking each section outside and shaking it vigorously but knew I wouldn’t get too far. I finally settled on giving the tree a quick once over with the vacuum wand. While I was at it I went ahead and vacuumed our air return and decided to change the air filter out. Because of the obvious extra allergen causes like tree and the shedding dog (that I swear should be bald by now with all the hair he looses!) I opted for the best out their the Filtrete Healthy Living Ultimate Allergen Reduciton Filter (MPR 1900). The Filtrete Healthy Living Ultimate Allergen Reduciton Filter (MPR 1900) attract & capture 93% of large particles like mold spores, dust & pollen from the air passing through the filter. They also attract and capture microscopic allergens like pet dander, smoke, household dust & microscopic particles that can carry bacteria, viruses & odors. It has almost twice the small particle filtration than the Filtrete 1000 performance level filter.
I’m so glad we changed out the filter, our house needs all the help it can get this time of year! One of us is suffering from a sinus or ear infection at any given moment. I already have our calendar marked and we will be changing out the filter again in two months rather than the 3 months the filter is good for just to try and stay ahead of the game!
