With Thanksgiving behind us, Jacque and I have shifted our focus to Christmas! We LOVE to have friends and family come to visit and stay at our house. We thought we’d share with you how we prep for holiday guests!
Our goal is to create a welcoming & comfortable environment. There’s nothing worse than staying somewhere and feeling uncomfortable while your there. So keep that in mind when getting your home ready for guests and think of ways to help them feel like they are at home. We focus on adding small hints of decor to a few rooms that our guests will spend the most time in.
The Guest Bedroom– Add touches of holiday flavor, mixed with some of your own personal touch.
Jacque likes to write little messages onto small chalkboards and set them on the night stands.
I like using ornaments to add unique splashes of color! (These beautiful vintage looking ornaments & the basket are from Lowe’s!)
The Guest Bathroom-There’s nothing like going into a bathroom and it looking like you’re the first person to ever grace the door.
We like to place our fresh & fluffy towels in a basket next to the shower. If the towels are rolled up and in the basket, our guests know they’ve been freshly laundered!
We like to add a nice touch to the bathroom by changing out the “everyday” soap for a new bottle while our guests our here. Plus, we’ll lay out a few toiletry items just in case our guests may have forgotten anything.
The Family Room-This is might be where we spend the most time prepping.
The family room is where most of our Christmas decorations are, it’s where our fireplace is, and it’s where the majority of our seating is. This is really where we go “all out” with decorations, old and new.
The Kitchen-Preplan for your guests. Find out what they like to drink. (or possibly their favorite breakfast foods) Mix it up a little bit and give them options.
We like having different hot drink options. We’ll pick up a variety of drinks and make a holiday beverage station. Not everyone likes coffee so having the options of hot cider or hot cocoa is always a crowd pleaser! And of course, we’ll put out some peppermint bark or M&M’s too! (These are Jacque’s favorites.)
Now that you’ve prepped your home for your holiday guests, come up with a few ideas for fun things to do while your guests are in town! Do you have a favorite place to go look at holiday lights? We’ve taken our holiday guests over to the historical Tennessee Theater to see a showing of Miracle on 34th Street. This has become a tradition that we all look forward to every year!
Or like we shared last month, we spent a night at home with some good friends watching the Lowe’s Holiday Showcase.
Taking the time to prep your home for holiday guests will be noticed and appreciated by everyone! There is nothing better than the feeling you get when you realize that your guests know they are welcome and feel comfortable in your home.
