Do you use hearing protection on a regular basis? I can honestly say that up until recently, I hadn’t really given it much thought. Thanks to my job at the fire department and my love of all things DIY, I run into plenty of opportunities to use hearing protection. But, if I had to grade myself on how often I use it I’d have to give myself a big, fat F! I like to listen to music while I work, so a lot of times I just stick a pair of headphones in and off I go. The problem I run into is the headphones I use don’t offer any reduction in the noise around me. So to be able to hear the music, I have to turn the volume up even louder. So whether I’m mowing the lawn, building something in the garage, or even checking off the engine at work, I was missing out on an opportunity to protect something I value greatly…My ability to hear! Anyone else see a problem with that? Take a look at this graphic that the team over at 3M Tekk was kind enough to share with me. This chart made me reevaluate my safety practices in regards to using hearing protection.
After talking at length with the folks from 3M Tekk Protection while I was at Haven, I recognized the error in my ways, and took action to correct the problem.
And how did I do that you ask? Well, they introduced me to a product that let me “have my cake and eat it too!”
3M Tekk Protection Brand Digital WorkTunes Hearing Protector and AM/FM Stereo Radio
These were exactly what the doctor ordered! I could still jam out to my music or listen to a ball game while I’m working on a project, but now I’m able to do it without hurting my ears in the process. I’ve put the WorkTunes to the test and I’ve been really impressed with the results. They are comfortable to wear for longer periods of time, the sound quality is really good, and now at the end of the day, my ears aren’t ringing! I really like that these have a built-in AM/FM radio, since I listen to news talk radio in the morning. I found it really convenient to have access to those programs! But, when I tire of the talking and just want to lose myself in music, I can because the WorkTunes are Mp3/iPod compatible.
For the record, 3M isn’t paying me to write this review, nor did they supply me with a pair of WorkTunes to try out. I bought these on my own and I’m writing this because after trying them, I think they’re worthwhile. I like that they’ve meshed hearing protection and music into one product and made it convenient and easy to use! Take a look at what other safety products 3M Tekk Protection has to offer, they’ve got it all!

The WorkTunes headset is amazing! We didn’t realize how often we should be wearing our hearing protection until 3M gave us a wakeup call, too!
