If you have been around for a while you probably remember a few years ago when I made my mom a monogrammed jewelry box for Christmas and then stole the box back and turned it into a pop up photo box. Since my mom already owns what has to be one of the most rocking stenciled jewelry boxes out there I decided to make one for my best friend. She is the mother of the cutest 15 month old little boy, Isaac. Whenever Josslyn and I get together with Isaac and his mom, Matt makes sure to remind me that Josslyn and Isaac can play but aren’t allowed to have play dates. For some reason he’s already paranoid about her dating. I hate to break it to him, but this isn’t going to get any easier!
Since my this gift is for my BFF and I don’t plan on buying her any fancy jewelry to put in the box anytime soon I decided to go for the other thing all women love; DOVE® Dark Chocolate. I was lucky enough to be able to try all 4 varieties of the Silky Smooth Promises and HOLY COW are they good! I actually had to rank them in order of my favorite to my 4th favorite. I won’t say least because they are all awesome. My top choice is the Dark Sea Salt Caramel, with a close close 2nd to the Almond Dark Chocolate, Mint and Dark Chocolate Swirl, and then the Smooth Dark Chocolates. I actually had to put them away so I had some to share in the box! I could go on and on about how great this chocolate is but I think it’s time to get to the tutorial.
MATERIALS:
Wooden Box
Stencil
Paint (ASCP Duck Egg Blue)
Gel Stain (Minwax Walnut Gel Stain)
Paint Brush
Foam Brush
Scotch Blue Painters Tape
Polycrylic
Rubber Gloves
Spray Adhesive
DOVE® Dark Chocolate Promises
INSTRUCTIONS:
Start by spraying the back of the stencil with Spray Adhesive. Line the stencil up on the top of the box. Move it around until you get a look you like.
Paint the top of your box, remove the stencil when you are done painting.
Tape off the bottom portion of the box with painters tape. This will help you complete the pattern on the lid of the box without worrying about getting paint on the bottom.
Check the location of the stencil pattern on the top of the box. Carefully tip the stencil until the stencil pattern repeats onto the edges of the lid. With the stencil lined up paint the edge of the box making sure to do one side at a time. Allow paint to dry.
Apply a coat of gel stain to the box.
Wait a minute or two and wipe the box off with a rag or paper towel. Let the stain on the box dry for 2 – 3 hours. And apply a coat of polycrylic to the box.
Let the polycrylic dry over night. The stenciled jewelry box is now ready for the DOVE® Dark Chocolate.
Fill the box with DOVE® Dark Chocolate. I chose to use the sea salt caramel and the mint & dark swirl, I would have added the almond dark chocolates but I may or may not have eaten them all, hehe.
I know my bestie will love this gift. I mean what is not to love, right? Oh and just in case anyone ask’s I would love something like this for a gift … hint hint!
